End user involvement in health innovation: critical factors and challenges

The future of healthcare is shaping up in front of our eyes mainly through digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence, VR/AR, 3D printing, robotics or nanotechnology. Continuous technological developments have a huge impact on patient experience, medical processes and the practices of healthcare professionals. But how do we develop healthcare innovations that create added value and acceptance for patients and care professionals and at the same time fit in the healthcare system and processes? For Licalab, human-centred design, co-creation and real-life testing are the key methodologies used through all development processes. Based on a few case studies, this talk will highlight the key role of end users in a process of open innovation. It will also identify the challenges and critical factors to involve end users and to gather valuable information for further technological development and market introduction.
