Next generation X-ray imaging system (Nexis)

Image quality and functionality of an interventional X-ray system need to be improved to perform stroke diagnosis directly in the treatment suite instead of the CT radiology room. This will significantly reduce the combined diagnosis and treatment time of stroke patients, and thereby save lives and reduce healthcare costs. This talk will give an overview of various technology challenges that are currently being tackled in the Nexis project, which aims to develop a 3D X-ray imaging system with enhanced capabilities for both standard (black and white) and spectral (colour) X-ray imaging. The key innovations are being built around a new multi-layer X-ray detector that is based on a similar technology concept as the dual-layer X-ray detector in the successful Philips Iqon spectral CT scanner.
